Why homeowners choose mini-splits

A mini-split delivers powerful, quiet cooling directly to the room where you need it — without the energy losses of ductwork. Modern mini-splits run whisper-quiet (as low as 19 dB on the lowest fan setting), cool down a room quickly, and maintain a precise temperature without the big temperature swings of older units.

In Metro Vancouver, mini-splits are especially popular for:

  • Older homes built before central AC was standard
  • Specific rooms that the main HVAC system misses — top-floor bedrooms, south-facing living rooms
  • Basement suites and secondary suites
  • Condos and townhouses
  • Home offices, garages and gym spaces
  • Laneway homes and garden suites

Mini-split systems we install

Single-Zone Mini-Splits

One outdoor unit, one indoor head. Best for targeting one room or open-plan space. Simpler installation, highest efficiency per zone.

Multi-Zone Mini-Splits

One outdoor unit, 2–5 indoor heads. Independent temperature control for each room. Cost-effective for cooling multiple areas.

Heat-Pump Mini-Splits

Cools in summer, heats in winter. Eligible for BC rebates. The most versatile and energy-efficient option for BC homes.

Brands we install

HeatLand installs and services Mitsubishi Electric (MSZ, MSY), Daikin (Aurora, LV, DX), Fujitsu (Halcyon), Bosch (IDS), LG, Gree, Samsung and other leading mini-split brands. We recommend based on your room size, budget and heating/cooling goals — not on brand preference.

What our mini-split installation includes

Every HeatLand mini-split installation includes: proper sizing calculation, indoor unit mounting (wall or ceiling cassette), outdoor unit placement and mounting, refrigerant line set installation, electrical connection to BC code, system commissioning and test, and a walkthrough of thermostat and remote operation. Permits are obtained and inspections coordinated where required.

Refrigerant line connections and charging are performed by certified HVAC technicians. No unlicensed helpers touch the refrigerant circuit.

Frequently asked questions about mini-splits

What is the difference between a mini-split and a regular air conditioner?

A mini-split (ductless mini-split) is a split-system air conditioner that requires no ductwork. The indoor unit mounts directly on the wall or ceiling of the room being cooled, connected to an outdoor unit via refrigerant lines. A conventional central air conditioner distributes cooled air through a home’s existing duct system. Mini-splits are quieter, more efficient and ideal for homes without existing ductwork.

How much does a mini-split installation cost in Vancouver?

A single-zone mini-split installation in Metro Vancouver typically ranges from $2,500 to $5,500+ installed, depending on the brand, capacity and installation complexity. Multi-zone systems are higher. Heat-pump mini-splits often qualify for CleanBC and BC Hydro rebates that can reduce the net cost significantly. We provide a firm written quote after assessing your home.

How long does a mini-split installation take?

A single-zone mini-split installation is typically completed in 4–8 hours. A multi-zone system with 3–4 indoor units usually takes one to two full days depending on wall construction, electrical work needed and distance between indoor and outdoor units.

Do mini-splits qualify for BC rebates?

Heat-pump mini-splits (which cool in summer and heat in winter) qualify for CleanBC Better Homes, BC Hydro and FortisBC rebates. Rebate amounts change periodically; HeatLand confirms current rebate eligibility during your consultation so you know exactly what is available before committing.

Can I install a mini-split in a condo or strata unit?

Often yes — a mini-split is one of the few cooling options for condos since no ductwork is required. However, strata bylaws vary and you may need strata council approval for the outdoor unit placement. We can help advise on the strata process and what to include in your approval request.
