Why ductless AC is ideal for many BC homes

Older Metro Vancouver homes — especially pre-war homes in Vancouver and Burnaby, post-war bungalows, stucco houses and split-levels — were built before central air conditioning was common. Adding ducts to these homes is expensive and often impractical. A ductless mini-split system requires only a small hole (about 7 cm) through an exterior wall for the refrigerant lines, making installation clean and non-invasive.

Ductless systems are also the right solution for: home additions that fall outside the reach of existing ductwork, basement suites, laneway homes, condos, garages converted to living space, and any room that is consistently too hot or too cold.

HeatLand’s installation team assesses each room’s cooling load, recommends the right system capacity, and handles all wiring and refrigerant line installation to BC code. We obtain the required permits and ensure the installation passes inspection. Most single-zone installs are completed in a single day.

Refrigerant is handled exclusively by certified HVAC technicians — never by unlicensed helpers. All electrical connections are made to the BC Electrical Code.

What is a ductless air conditioner (mini-split)?

A ductless mini-split consists of a compact outdoor compressor unit and one or more wall-mounted indoor air handlers connected by refrigerant lines and electrical wiring. There is no ductwork involved. The indoor unit blows cooled (or heated) air directly into the room it serves.

Is ductless AC more efficient than central air?
