Safe Checks Before You Call
- Check your thermostat mode and setpoint (Heat in winter, Cool in summer).
- Replace or clean the return filter — restricted airflow is the #1 avoidable fault.
- Check the breaker for the outdoor unit and air handler; reset once only.
- Make sure the outdoor unit is clear of leaves, snow, and debris on all sides.
What not to touch: refrigerant lines, electrical panels inside the units, and the sealed system. Refrigerant work requires certification, and capacitors hold charge even with power off.

Is it safe to run my Bosch heat pump if it is icing up?
Light frost in winter is normal and the defrost cycle clears it. Solid ice covering the coil is not — shut the system off and book a repair. Running an iced-up unit can damage the fan and compressor.
