What the black particles usually are

A mini-split moves air across a cold, damp coil, and over time dust, dander, and biofilm build up on the coil and the blower wheel. When that build-up dries and flakes, or when mould colonies on the wet surfaces shed, the airflow can carry tiny dark particles out into the room. It is essentially the unit blowing out its own internal grime.

In some installations the specks are crumbling foam insulation from inside the unit or the line set, which can degrade with age and humidity.
